-
Larry Michael - District IV Mgr. / Tournament Director and Tim Laverty -
Referee & Scorekeeper. We had 16 players representing 5 States: 11 from
NC, 2 each from OH, and 1 each from FL, MD, & VA.
-
Larry welcomed all players and visitors at the opening of the tournament business meeting. Larry gave
our invocation and we remembered our recently deceased player, Raleigh Johnson
who died August 19th at age 90. Tournament rules were covered and players were instructed on playing time limits and
other conditions. We play 2 hour rounds as 60 minutes per game.
-
JR Smith announced the up coming Alabama / D5 in Haleyville, AL Nov 14th &
15th and the up coming 2015 Tennessee State Open in March 6th - 8th, 2015
in Lebanon, TN which is
expected to have a $4-5K cash prize. Also the 11-Man WTM between Laverty & Moiseyev
is scheduled January 17th thru 19th, 2015. And of course the Joe McDaniel's
Branson Mixer, June 19th thru 21st with a $7,500+ Cash Purse!
-
We offer a special thank you to Larry for his continued arrangements to hold our D4 at their fellowship hall. This
makes the sixteenth year Larry has served as our ACF District 4 Manager.
-
We played a single division tournament using Swiss pairing & the 156 deck, with only last round repairing if
necessary. 2 hour rounds, allowing 1 hour per game. Only a 5 minute time allowance for over time rounds with a 1 minute per move for 5 moves, then Referee
will judge any unfinished games as a draw or win to stay on schedule. | Bye awarded as 3 points to lowest game point player.
-
A Big Delicious Buffet country cooking dinner was provided in the Fellowship Hall at 6PM
Friday! We thank Larry, Frances, & Judy for the preparation and serving
of our tournament dinners, refreshments, and finger-foods throughout the tournament.
Also a big thank you! to Mrs. Frances McClintock for her preparation of
all the foods that supplemented our lunch and dinner, as various dishes, cakes,
breads, sandwiches, desserts, (persimmon pudding) etc. We also thank Carolyn Minor for bringing
her delicious turnip greens.
- Players were welcomed to Lexington Triad Inn by a nice office
desktop display announcing
"The 68th ACF District 4 Open Checker Tournament"
-
Most of our out-of-town players elected to stay at
the
Budget Inn, 200 Murphy Dr, Lexington, NC 27292, 336-248-5172 (
map),
just 2½ miles past Lexington Triad Inn, south on Bus. 85. Manager Jack,
matched Triad's king or double bed rates at $45 per night including tax. -
T separates player's opponent from player's game points (win=2, draw=1, loss=0, bye=3). GM stands for Grand Master,
CM stands for Candidate Master, IM stands for International Master which are earned titles given to distinguish a player's status by WCDF. | Ratings are from ACF. | Before and After Ratings are the results of a player's
rating before this tournament and after it was recalculated from this score-sheet by ACF rating processor, Joe Moore.
Robert Cline
- Howard Gains was the furthers away distant traveling player from Panama City by 635 miles & 10 hrs. one-way. Lots of wives
and visitors attended: Morris Auman from Sophia, NC visited us Saturday and played some
practice games.
The Total Cash Prize:
$1,730 = Entry Fees $400 ($25x16) + contributions &
donations, including Joe McDaniel's $200.00 check.
Larry Michael said he was looking into launching our own internet checker
playing game room site for ACF checker players, which would be accessible at
the USACheckers.com site. This idea was suggested by Larry in a conversation
between District 4 Manager and several tournament sponsors about what is most
needed to build and promote checkers. Having our own internet playing room
should attract serious players which would become ACF members and participate
in other events. We have their name, address, and how active they are in
visiting and playing at our game room. This was one of the most practical idea
I've heard, with serious intent to develop and implement it.
Many players enjoyed meals and fellowship at Randy's,
Lexington Barbeque, Speedy's BBQ, Ocean View Seafood, Country Cookin, Portabello's,
Christo's, and Village Grill, etc. over the weekend.
This was a fun tournament, the weather was rainy Thursday afternoon but
cleared up to two nice cool Indian summer days for our Friday & Saturday
tournament. We enjoyed a delicious dinner & lunch, and a delightful tournament
& fellowship for all who attended!Ray & Beverly Shelly, and JR Smith attended Sunday-school & Worship Service at Gethsemane, after the tournament. Ray was their guest singer and Pastor Michael delivered an inspiring message about self-esteem, self-confidence, self-worth, and self-assurance which are all
attributes of a Christian. A good image and respect for yourself is what God has given us because man was created in his image. These things are possible through God's strength and assurance.
